Note: We have 4 ways of solving one-step equations namely, Adding, Subtracting, multiplication and division. If we add the same number to both sides of an equation, both sides will remain equal. Remember always that whatever you do to one side of an equation, you do to the other side.
Example: Solve the equation, x + 7 = 27.
x + 7 = 27, Subtract 7 from both sides to isolate the variable.
-7 -7 Use the opposite operation.
————–
x = 20
————–
Example: Solve the equation, x + 5 = 47.
x + 5 = 47, Subtract 5 from both sides
-5 -5 Use the opposite operation.
————–
x = 42
————–
Example: Solve the equation, x – 25 = 50.
x – 25 = 50, Add 25 to both sides
+ 25 +25 Use the opposite operation.
————–
x = 75
