To solve a multistep equation, you will need to use two or more operations.

**Example**:

8y + 7y = 45 **Collect like terms**

15y = 45 *Divide by 15*

**y = 3**

**Example**:

23x – 16 = 30

+16 +16 *Add 16*

—————-

23x = 46 *Divide by 23*

**x = 2**

**Example**:

3∕4d + 10 = 25 **Subtract 10 from both sides**

– 10 -10

————–

3∕4d = 15 *Multiply by 4*

3d = 60 *Divide by 3*

**d = 20**

**Example**:

8∕3a – 8 = 24

+ 8 + 8 *Add 8 to both sides*

————

8∕3a = 32 *Multiply by 3*

8a = 96 *Divide by 8*

**a = 12**
